[email protected] Parent Responsibilities and Student Expectations

  • Ensure students are logged into their Canvas course by 8:45. The student day mirrors the regular school day. The school day is 8:45 - 3:00, and 8:45 - 2:00 (W). Teachers are taking attendance. Students arriving later are considered tardy.

  • Select a space conducive to learning in the house, ensuring that students are attending class sessions seated at desk or table with their cameras on ready for instruction.

  • Monitor your child's on task behavior and completion of independent tasks throughout the day.

  • Students are required to return to their assigned courses after lunch, specials, and independent work. Please notify the teacher if your child will not be returning after these times. It is treated as if you have checked your child out for the day.

  • Background noise should be kept to a minimum when the student's microphone is on. It is distracting to the teacher and students if there is extraneous noise or conversations. We encourage students to wear headphones or earphones to maintain student engagement.

  • Graded assignments must be completed by the student independently. This includes tests, quizzes, and assignments where teachers have communicated that grades will be taken.

  • The iReady diagnostic must also be completed independently by the student. Students may get questions they don't know. This is typical of iReady as the program is set up to assess the individual skills and set a path for instruction. Parents may encourage their child to take their time, take a break, use paper to solve math problems, and try their best. Students are required to have their cameras on as their LaunchED teachers are required to monitor this assessment.

  • The chat box should be used for questions and answers directed to the teacher by the student. Teachers may also require students to respond in the chat box. It resembles face-to-face lessons where teachers ask questions and students respond. It should not be used for students to display off task behavior, write inappropriate comments, or to derail the lesson.

  • Maintain communication with the classroom teacher.

  • It is expected that students follow the Code of Conduct as it relates to digital learning.

  • Progress reports and report cards will reflect independent student work as well as social development and work habits. Students demonstrating inappropriate behavior on screen or in the chat box will be noted in the social development section of the progress reports and report cards.

  • Review the posted resources for parents on the OCPS website home page titled "Parent Resources for LaunchED at Home."
