Dear Lake Whitney Families,

On behalf of the Lake Whitney Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), it is our pleasure to welcome you to the 2022-2023 school year.  For those of you who are unfamiliar with us, we are a volunteer organization made up of parents, teachers, and staff who support a variety of curriculum enhancements, activities, and fun family events.  Lake Whitney is an amazing school, largely due to the great working relationship between our teachers, staff, parents, and community.

The PTO helps support programs such as Accelerated Reader, Birthday Book Club, Health and Safety, and Guardian Angel.  Additionally, the PTO provides support to all our teachers and classrooms with teacher grants and coordinates volunteers.  Furthermore, the PTO sponsors many fun family events such as our Grandparents Bingo Night, Pastries with Parents, the Sweetheart Dance, Mother/Son Event, the Arts Night, Bike Safety Week, Spirit Nights, and the Spring Carnival.  By becoming a PTO member, you will help fund some of these valuable programs.

We encourage you to not only join our organization, but get involved as well!  Please visit www.schoolpay.com to become a member of the PTO.  Our funds come from membership dues and our fundraisers, which we encourage all families to participate in and support. This year’s fundraiser will be like last year, fundraising through kindness with Raise Craze.  If the PTO determines we need additional funds, we may have a second fundraiser during the school year.  Please see the PTO calendar for the many upcoming activities and events we have planned for this school year.

The PTO is happy to report that with funds we have generated over the last few years, we were able to put shades on the playgrounds, add water filling stations, purchase a poster printer for the Media Center and landscape the front of the school. Last year we provided the fourth and fifth-grade teams with reusable writing tablets, power washed several areas of the school, repainted the P.E. pavilion and map pavilion, purchased a wheelchair for the clinic and distributed gift cards to the teachers to purchase supplies for their classrooms. The PTO thanks you for continuing to support Lake Whitney!

Joining the PTO is just the first step—please consider volunteering at Lake Whitney.  Volunteering is an excellent way to become an active part of the Lake Whitney community and meet other families.  There is a volunteer job for everyone.  Make sure to visit the OCPS website www.ocps.net to become an ADDitions volunteer.  You must complete the application and become approved before you are able to volunteer on campus or on field trips. Take a moment and check out our PTO website at www.lakewhitneypto.org and join our Facebook page for additional information.

We look forward to a great school year!

Sincerely,

Colleen Czachorowski and Jenn Gerry
